There’s probably someone in your family or among your friends who loves owls — maybe that’s you! 🙂
Whether you’re an owl lover yourself or know someone who is, we have two crochet owl patterns you might like! One is a pair of cute owl coasters that can also be hung on the wall, and the other is our chubby Forest Owl, which you can make as a soft toy or use as a doorstop.

Crochet Owl Coasters in Two Versions
These coasters are a nice little project if you’re looking for some cute fall home decor. There are two versions to choose from, depending on your crochet experience and the look you prefer.
The simpler version has a one-color body and is suitable for beginners who know the basic crochet stitches and techniques. The other version has a three-color body and a more intricate design, so we’d recommend it for advanced beginners who already have a little crochet experience.
As with all our patterns, this one includes step-by-step photos to guide you along the way.
You can use these little owls as coasters for your coffee or tea, but they also make lovely wall decor if you add a hanger. We have one hanging on a narrow section of wall in our hallway, where it adds a little interest without taking up much space.

For these crochet owl coasters, we used Aran-weight, 100% cotton yarn. We recommend cotton because it’s absorbent and a good choice to use under hot mugs. We’d avoid acrylic yarn for this purpose, since synthetic fibers can be sensitive to high heat.
If you’d like to make a larger owl for your wall, you can experiment with a thicker yarn and crochet hook to increase its size.
The pattern is also available in German! 🙂
Forest Owl Amigurumi
Our Forest Owl is a chubby little owl with two possible uses, depending on how you make it.
If you’d like a soft toy or a cuddle buddy, choose a yarn that’s soft to the touch and stuff it with fiberfill as usual. If you’d rather use it as a doorstop, you can use any yarn you like and add some extra weight at the bottom, such as dry rice or sand in a securely closed bag.
We made ours with Aran-weight wool-blend yarn and added dry rice in a closed bag at the bottom. It’s been working well as a doorstop for years now! It’s quite handy when you have a door that never seems to stay open. 🙂
We’d put this pattern at an advanced beginner to intermediate level. Some amigurumi experience will help, so it might not be the best choice for your very first crochet project. But if you’ve already made a few stuffed toys, it’s a fun project to try!

Crochet Owls as Gifts
Both of these crochet owl patterns can make lovely handmade gifts, especially for people who love owls.
The owl coasters could be a lovely little gift for a teacher, a librarian, or someone who enjoys reading and collecting books.
The Forest Owl makes a cute gift for children. If you make it as a doorstop, it could also be a fun housewarming gift.
If you’d like to make your own, you can find both crochet owl patterns in our shops below.
