Looking for a Crochet Bag That Keeps Its Shape? (New Crochet Pattern)
Let’s face it, when it comes to bags, there are two types of women. Which one sounds more like you?
- A: The one who carries half the house around in a giant tote bag?
- B: The minimalist who only brings the essentials?
We definitely belong to the second group: wallet, phone, keys, sunglasses, lip balm, a bottle of water… and maybe a few reusable shopping bags, just in case we happen to walk past the farmers’ market. 😅
The problem is that even these “few” essentials can be enough to weigh down many crochet bags. Over time, the handles stretch, the bag loses its shape, and it ends up sitting in your wardrobe instead of being used every day.
That was the starting point for our new crochet pattern, the Everyday Hexagon Bag! When designing it, we wanted something simple, practical, and comfortable to wear: a bag that goes well with a T-shirt and jeans and is handy to take along to the market, a coffee date, or a walk around town. Most importantly, we wanted it to keep its shape.
The bag is worked from separate pieces that are sewn together at the end. If you have been thinking about making your first crochet bag, this beginner-friendly pattern is a great place to start! The PDF includes step-by-step photos to guide you through the process.
For extra structure, we added a fabric lining to our bag. This step is optional, but we highly recommend it. A lining helps prevent small items such as keys from slipping through and gives the bag even more stability. We used a thick ecru-colored fabric for ours to get a contrasting look, but you can choose a matching fabric if you prefer that.
One of our favorite things about this crochet shoulder bag is its versatility. It is the kind of bag you can use throughout the year, whether you are running errands, heading to the farmers’ market, or simply carrying your everyday essentials. For the photos, we made the bag in cocoa brown, as it is a neutral color that goes well with a wide range of warm-toned outfits. During pattern testing, we also made a lavender gray version, which pairs beautifully with cool-toned wardrobes and colors such as pastels, pinks, and blues.
