Reusable face scrubbies are a great way to replace disposable cotton rounds and can be used for many of the same things. You can use them with micellar water, toner, and other skincare products.
We liked the idea so much that we decided to create a little set of our own. We designed these puffy crochet face scrubbies and a matching washcloth. Then we started thinking: if you have a set of scrubbies, you need somewhere to keep the clean ones, so we designed a sturdy basket for them.
We also wanted a place to put the used ones before washing them, so we made a mesh drawstring laundry bag where you can collect them. Once they are all used up, you can simply put the whole bag into the washing machine. This way, the scrubbies don’t get lost or tangled up with the rest of your laundry.
And to complete the set, we also created a matching headband. You can use it to pull your hair back while doing your skincare or getting ready in the morning.
In the end, we have a five-piece spa set that is both useful and practical. 🙂

What Can You Use Crochet Face Scrubbies For?
There are quite a few ways to use reusable face scrubbies in your daily routine.
You can use them with:
- micellar water to cleanse your skin
- toner
- other liquid skincare products
- gentle exfoliation
- makeup removal*
*If you use the face pads for makeup removal, we would recommend having a few that are just for makeup, especially if you use darker or strongly pigmented products. Once makeup gets into the yarn, it can be much harder to get completely clean.
What Yarn to Use for Crochet Face Scrubbies?
For this crochet spa set, we used Aran-weight, 100% non-mercerized cotton yarn.
The difference between mercerized and non-mercerized cotton can be easily seen, but you can tell even better by touching the yarn.
Mercerized cotton has a smoother surface and a beautiful shine. Mercerization is an industrial treatment used during yarn production, in which cotton is treated with caustic soda, usually while the yarn is held under tension. This changes the structure of the cotton fibers, giving the yarn more luster and making it more receptive to dye.
Non-mercerized cotton, on the other hand, has a more natural, matte look and usually feels softer and fluffier. This is the type we prefer for things like crochet face scrubbies, washcloths, dishcloths, and towels, where we want the yarn to absorb moisture well.
Mercerized cotton is a better choice for elegant tops and lace because of its smooth texture and beautiful sheen. It is also less prone to pilling than untreated cotton.
For this set, we used a soft pastel color palette, with seven face pads in seven different soft colors, and those colors repeat on the other elements of the spa set as well.

Washing the Crochet Spa Set
We recommend following the washing instructions on your particular yarn label, as cotton yarns from different brands can have different care recommendations.
For regular use, washing them in the washing machine at 40°C / 104°F is more than enough, although a lower temperature may also be sufficient. If you think you need a higher temperature and your yarn label allows it, you can also wash them at 60°C / 140°F to disinfect them, but the colors may fade faster. For example, Ursula’s skin is prone to acne, so she uses the scrubbies to apply acne toner to her face and washes them at 60°C. Of course, after years of using and washing them this way, the colors have faded, but the fabric is still in good condition, so she still uses them.
A Lovely Handmade Gift Idea
This crochet spa set would make a really nice handmade gift. It could be a thoughtful gift for someone who enjoys handmade and reusable or eco-friendly things.
It would also make a lovely Christmas, Mother’s Day or Women’s Day gift. You could even put together a little self-care basket by adding some skincare products, handmade soaps from a farmers’ market, bath salts, beeswax lip balm, or other small treats along with your crochet spa set.

A Great Project for Craft Fairs
This crochet spa set can also be a nice addition to a craft fair table.
The individual pieces are small and practical, so you can make complete spa sets or sell only sets of scrubbies in beautiful color combinations, so customers can choose their favorite.
